Head Instructor

Chief Master Jordan Schreiber

Chief Master Jordan Schreiber is an 8th degree black belt with over 40 years of martial arts experience and over 35 years of teaching experience.

He has developed a life skills and leadership skills curriculum that draws on both his extensive martial arts experience and his elite education: He has an undergraduate degree from Harvard, a law degree (magna cum laude) from Harvard Law School, and a D.Phil from Oxford, where he was a Rhodes Scholar.

Chief Master Schreiber founded university martial arts clubs at both Harvard and Oxford and opened a school in Connecticut in 1998. While working as a lawyer in California, he established ATA Martial Arts Leadership Academy and operated that school for 19 years. During that time, he and his staff taught well over a thousand children and adults.

In the years before Chief Master Schreiber and his family returned to England, his California school was repeatedly voted "Best Martial Arts" by San Francisco Bay Area parents, and it earned a 5-star rating on Yelp. Here’s a typical review from a parent:

"Master Schreiber's academy is the programme that every parent dreams of for their child. Our son has not only learned Taekwondo, but the focus, integrity and leadership skills to apply to all aspects of his life. We are incredibly fortunate to have Master Schreiber in our community."

Chief Master Schreiber's passion for serving children springs from his upbringing in a family that included 14 children, 10 of them adopted. He is the president and founder of Team PRIDE, a non-profit organization dedicated to extending the benefits of martial arts instruction to low-income children throughout the United States.

In 2007, Chief Master Schreiber was named "Best Citizen in the East Bay" by the East Bay Express newspaper. In 2008, his approach to instruction was highlighted by the George Lucas Educational Foundation as an example of what works in education. He also has been featured in Taekwondo World Magazine, The Way Magazine, ATA World Magazine (in 2007 and 2008), the San Francisco Chronicle and the Contra Costa Times.

Chief Master Schreiber now lives in Eynsham with his wife Helena and their children Griffin and Seraphine.

The Academy

Menssana Martial Arts

Menssana Martial Arts is a licenced member of ATA International, the world's largest centralised martial arts organisation. Founded in 1969 by Grand Master Haeng Ung Lee, the ATA has about 1,000 locations serving hundreds of thousands of students worldwide. ATA instructors must satisfy rigorous standards of teaching skill and martial arts proficiency. Belt ranks earned at Menssana Martial Arts are recognised internationally.

We know that martial arts training not only strengthens the body but also disciplines the mind. That's why we call our academy Menssana Martial Arts, from the Latin expression mens sana in corpore sano"a healthy mind in a healthy body".

Our programmes are built on these four pillars:

Strength

Martial arts training is a fun and exciting way to develop fitness, balance, coordination and agility. Our classes include exercises designed to build strength in five areas: upper body, lower body, core, cardio and flexibility.

Safety

We teach children how to prevent and respond to bullying, how to avoid "stranger danger," and how to be safe in the event of a fire. Our adult classes teach practical self-defence skills that are easy and effective regardless of gender.

Service

We are committed to serving our community. Our classes are available to all interested students without discrimination, and throughout the year we provide free safety and self-defence seminars to the residents of West Oxfordshire.

Success

Our classes teach skills for success in school and beyond: goal-setting, focus, perseverance, self-discipline, confidence, respect and more.

Not only are they organised and professional, all the teachers are patient and kind. We take classes as a family, and it’s been a great way to exercise and spend time together.

JULIE S.

The structure and positive lessons have made a noticeable impact on my daughter’s ability to follow direction and build self-confidence.

JESSICA H.

Welcoming family feel, very positive instruction, well trained engaging teachers who make personal connections with the kids...A perfect fit for my son!

POPPY A.

I can see my kids growing and building their self-confidence and respectful positive attitude since they joined. Also, their focus has improved!

MIA S.

Our daughter started when she was 3. By the time she entered preschool at 4, teachers were amazed by her focus, discipline, and her great manners towards everyone.

DANIAH B.

My three boys and I have been taking lessons for about 2-3 years now and we love it! They not only focus on Taekwondo skills, but also respect, bully prevention and self-defence.

CHRISTINA G.

I have seen my son go from a child that barely made it through 10 minutes of class and was very disruptive to being able to handle up to a 45 minute class. The instructors have been able to adapt to work with my child's special needs and help him become successful.

ALLISON E.

Many people are surprised that I drive in peak hour traffic for an hour to bring my son here for martial arts. I had researched a lot of facilities near our house, but none compared to the dedication & attention that Master Schreiber's academy gives each student.
